Masshole Love, 2013
Single channel video, runtime: 34:30 minutes

Masshole Love was shot primarily in Provincetown, Massachusetts. “P-Town” is predominantly known as a gay male tourist town. Lobsta Blue, the character Goyette plays here, is a female burlesque performer who hosts a spoken word/dance party, the Lobsta Sexcitation show, appealing to the queer/fringe performance art crowd of P-Town. Lobsta Blue became a burlesque performer interested in sex/nightlife due to her repressed sex traumas from childhood. Masshole Love opens to a flashback, as young Lobsta Blue is in the midst of being molested by a police officer. She later meets a repressed "Pilgrim" man in P-Town, trapped in his Puritan ancestry and history, a repressed bisexual Bear who dresses anachronistically. Cesare de Credico,” played the Puritan male muse alongside Goyette. Working on the film during P-Town’s annual “Bear Week”, they surprised local  townspeople and tourists as they performed in situ, inserting their characters into the fabric of social life.

De Credico and Goyette passed the camera/gaze back and forth, filming their respective character’s personal transformations that evolved through unexpected friendship. Goyette decided to open Masshole Love with a historical reenactment of her own childhood trauma of being molested by a cop, while De Credico used his own coming out story and father’s death as inspiration.  Through the process of making Masshole Love, Goyette and De Credico began to heal their respective traumas, while engaging in the crafts of visual art and cinema. Many cast members shared their own stories of trauma and healing through persona work, alchemizing pain into pleasure.
